Transforming Energy

Marina Abramović (1946) believes in the power of crystals to store the whole history of the earth and carry and transmit their energy. Thus, crystals are mainly linked to the Transitory Objects, a series of objects that the artist created to embody energy and trigger physical and mental experiences in the public through direct interaction, several installations, and exhibitions. Inspired by one of Abramović’s most iconic performances, her walk across the Great Wall in China with German artist Ulay in 1988, and published on the occasion of the comprehensive exhibition at the Museum of Modern Art (MAM) Shanghai, Transforming Energy includes unseen images of Abramović’s walk in Great Wall, along with a series of captivating new artworks especially created for the survey. Edited by Shai Baitel, the Artistic Director of MAM Shanghai, in close collaboration with the artist, the book tells the story of how Marina Abramović discovered and explored the power of stones and crystals, at first, during her performance across the Great Wall with Ulay, and later by visiting mines around Brazil. The publication contains her personal theory on crystals and energy, with her drawings, pictures of her works, and other sources describing Abramović’s vision of crystals and the “crystal meditation” her works aim to inspire. At the heart of the project are works infused with crystals, which serve as a source of transformative energy for the artist. The book features a diverse range of works spanning decades, including new pieces, crystal-based objects sourced internationally from places such as Brazil, as well as Marina’s renowned sculptural objects known as Transitory Objects, which she has meticulously crafted over the years.

It is 1170 when Hildegard, now elderly, makes her last journey to recount what she has seen and heard. It is a time when the written word takes shape, resonating in the great cathedrals, and it is in this prophetic time that the saint entrusts her entire work to the painted word. A journey in images that narrates the path along the roads until the return to the heart of God, in the great sphere within three spheres of creation. Hildegard allows the living source of God's wisdom to flow into the construction of images where numbers, shapes, colours, sounds and the movement of the stars sing the wonder of the divine order, imitating its creative action, which first draws an image with a compass and only then paints it with colours. The richly illustrated volume accompanies the original reproductions of the images from the two Hildegardian codices with new, never-before-seen images hidden within the miniatures. The work is divided into three parts: the first recounts the journey through the cosmos, from the sphere of creation to the sphere of the soul; the second describes the process of writing and composing the hidden images; and the third explains the wisdom code used to construct the work and the images thanks to the arts of the quadrivium, arithmetic, geometry, music and astronomy.
//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0833/6644/5398/files/HILDEGARD-VON-BINGEN-3-COP-ENG_37233f91-5685-415e-a068-47dfc9475f08.webp?v=1786387455
erwin-wurm-dreamers
Erwin Wurm. Dreamers
Considered the most important living Austrian sculptor, who was previously chosen to represent his country at the 57th Venice Biennale in 2017, over the course of his long and prolific career Erwin Wurm (1954) has radically expanded the concept of sculpture, challenging notions of time, mass and surface, and abstraction and representation, and for many decades has used clothing to address sculptural issues. Published to mark Wurm’s major solo show, held in conjunction with the Biennale Arte 2026, the volume, produced in collaboration with Élise Mougin-Wurm, relates the works of this leading contemporary artist – who explores the idea of the human body as a sculpture – to the spirit of such a magical place as the Museo Fortuny, where the dialogue centres on the body, clothing, sculpture, spatial vision and painting. Through the essays by Elisabetta Barisoni and Cristina Da Roit and compelling imagery, the book retraces the artist’s solo exhibition, establishing fruitful comparisons between his contemporary works and Fortuny’s rich legacy of textiles, light, theatre, and experimentation. It delves into themes of clothing, presence, and absence, presenting sculptural “garments” and enclosures that evoke the human body through the interplay of form and void. The book features installation views and a selection of Erwin’s most recent works, alongside iconic and seminal works from across his career, such as the One Minute Sculptures series, which has made Wurm famous since the 1990s.
Published on the occasion of her solo exhibition in conjunction with the 2026 Venice Art Biennale, this book presents the surrealist sculptures by the British-French artist Charlotte Colbert, installations suspended between dream and imagination, substance and symbolism, fiction and reality. In Possible Landscapes, the artist engages with the city by creating startling installations conceived specifically for Venice, works that are the tangible results of Charlotte Colbert’s spirited approach to life and positive exuberance. Richly adorned in meaningful gestures, Possible Landscapes is a mystical blend of Nature’s appreciation, beliefs and spiritual awakening, bringing us back to familiar references while pushing the boundaries of the multiple ways of perceiving reality in a context built by contrasts that reflects Venice itself. Fully illustrated, the monograph documents Colbert’s alchemic practice that creates universal worlds of dream and contemplation, action and invention rich in inspiring metaphors and original symbols.
Ding Yi: Cosmotechnics is the publication accompanying the solo exhibition by Chi¬nese artist Ding Yi at the Fondazione Querini Stampalia, Venice, opening concur¬rently with the Venice Biennale in 2026. Edited by Alfredo Cramerotti and Auronda Scalera, the volume focuses on the artist’s long-standing Appearance of Crosses series, approaching the cross motif as a generative system through which abstraction, per¬ception, and spatial experience converge. The book documents twelve newly produced paintings on basswood panels, con¬ceived in close dialogue with Carlo Scarpa’s architectural language and installed as a contemplative “forest.” Through extensive visual documentation, the publication conveys the installation’s rhythmic, luminous, and spatial qualities, as well as the two stone steles placed in the Giardino Scarpa, which extend the project’s symbolic and spatial field beyond the exhibition space. A curated selection of historical works traces the evolution of Ding Yi’s practice from the late 1980s to the present, situating the new paintings within a broader temporal and material continuum.
John Beadle (1964-2024) and Lavar Munroe (1982-), deeply grounded in visual and social practices of The Bahamas and broader African diaspora, highlight themes of commemoration, collectivity, and collaboration. Beadle, who died in 2024, worked as part of a community of makers who collaboratively make costumes for the bi-annual Junkanoo masquerade, a centuries-old Bahamian tradition. Junkanoo often formed the DNA of Beadle’s studio art, particularly in his use of discarded materials like cardboard, the typically covered over and embellished inner structure of Junkanoo costumes. Munroe has similarly worked at the intersection of Junkanoo, as a member of a Junkanoo group, and contemporary art. Munroe has created elaborate sculptures made from strips of Junkanoo costumes that had been abandoned after being performed in the bi-annual parade. Beadle and Munroe share a focus on the hidden, the discarded, the thrown away, the undervalued, “the minor notes,” in society—the migrant, the day laborer, the homeless. The publication explores too the idea of “posthumous collaboration,” the process of collaborating with and commemorating the deceased through material traces of their art and labor. The volume, part of the Bahamas’s Pavilion at the Venice Biennale, 2026, is edited by Krista Thompson and includes essays by Christian Campbell, Amanda Coulson, and Tandazani Dhlakama.
//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0833/6644/5398/files/BAHAMAS-PAVILION-COP_f71f4f49-f95f-4e2d-a57c-12deb92485c5.webp?v=1791298104
//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0833/6644/5398/collections/04565cc2275dde0f94ba0bc5f0772be8.webp?v=1784281717
