Astrid Morland is a versatile, curious, and contemplative artist. With keen insight she explores critical themes, such as humanity's existential conditions and the delicate relationship between man and nature. For many years she has worked with paintings, drawings, textiles, and installations, and her figurative universe is often characterised by a surrealist idiom and recurring motifs. Particularly central to her art is the form of the dress, which assumes a profound symbolism. This motif often appears in Morland's paintings and drawings and is further explored in her textile pieces and her three-dimensional works made of stones, pine cones, mussels, and other natural materials. Recently, the artist has also created richly detailed embroideries of animals and insects on dresses, a subtle reminder of the major environmental challenges we are facing today.
