Colours, Shapes, Places, Movement, Light: these are the section headings in the new book gathering together Paolillo’s splendid underwater photographs. Shoals of fish snaking their way around, shining crinoids, branching gorgonians, and close-ups of spectacular jellyfish, sharks, and turtles: Vincenzo Paolillo’s photographs portray a world of bright colours, crowded yet silent, through which the long story of its inhabitants unfolds. The images describe and represent fish, animals, subjects, environments of the underwater world, mostly marine but also of fresh water (Amazonia). They have been taken over the years, in some cases even many years ago up to two or three years ago. Photographs have been chosen not with reference to the subjects but to the themes that the author intended to deal with and into which the book is divided: Colours, Shapes, Places, Movement, Light.
